I found some hdmi dongles running android ics for around $80 (even cheaper on ebay) if you just want something for videos/web. If you want a real computer, companies like giada and shuttle make mini PCs with a decent amount of power and they're small enough to sit under your tv. Nothing as cheap as raspberry pi though.

Anyone can use the Pi for whatever they like. I don't have to use it as an educational tool. I could throw it at a passing car if I wanted to.
